There’s something magical about live music on Maui. When one of Alaska’s most loved bands joins forces with one of Maui’s hometown favorites, you know it’s going to be special. Blackwater Railroad Company has become a favorite throughout Alaska and is quickly gaining fans in Hawaiʻi and Japan, making every stop on their journey feel like a celebration of music, friendship, and community.
That’s exactly what happened when Blackwater Railroad Company (BWRR) made their way to Maui as part of The Pacific Bridge Tour. And honestly? It was one of those special moments that perfectly captured what makes island life so memorable.
From Alaska to Maui—Connected Through Musicaward
Based in the coastal town of Seward, Alaska, Blackwater Railroad Company has been winning over audiences since 2012 with their signature blend of bluegrass, folk, Americana, country, and roots rock. Their songs are packed with heartfelt storytelling, soaring harmonies, and the kind of energy that gets an entire crowd clapping, dancing, and singing along.
Their music reflects life in Alaska—the adventures, challenges, friendships, and unforgettable moments that shape the people who call it home. Yet somehow, those stories feel right at home here on Maui too.
As part of the Pacific Bridge Tour, BWRR joined forces with Maui’s own Justin Morris & Company (JMoCo) for a series of performances connecting Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. The Maui stop at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea brought together two incredible bands, two beautiful island communities, and one shared love of live music.
A Weekend Filled with Music—and New Friendships
For Kathy McCartney, owner of Maui Vision Rentals, the tour became even more personal.
Kathy had the opportunity to host Blackwater Railroad during their Maui visit, spending time with the band both on and off the stage. Between lively performances, home gatherings, sightseeing adventures, and plenty of laughter, what started as hosting visiting musicians quickly turned into genuine friendships.
It’s one of the things Kathy loves most about Maui. Visitors often arrive as guests—but they leave feeling like family.
And that’s exactly the spirit we hope every Maui Vision Rentals guest experiences during their stay.

Why Experiences Like This Matter
Sure, Maui is famous for its beaches, sunsets, and whale watching.
But the island’s heartbeat is found in its people, local businesses, artists, musicians, and community events. Whether you’re discovering a neighborhood concert, enjoying live music after dinner, or meeting people from around the world, these unexpected moments often become the highlights of a vacation.
They’re the stories you tell when you get home.
They’re the memories that last.
Planning Your Own Maui Adventure?
One of the best parts about staying with Maui Vision Rentals is having the freedom to experience Maui like a local. From live music venues and cultural festivals to scenic drives and hidden beaches, there’s always something happening just beyond your front door. You never know—you might even discover your new favorite band.
And if Blackwater Railroad’s music inspires you, the adventure doesn’t have to end in Maui. The band is inviting fans to join them on their upcoming journey to Japan, where they’ll continue sharing their signature blend of Americana, bluegrass, and folk with new audiences.
Until then, we’ll keep sharing the places, people, and experiences that make Maui feel so special. We can’t wait to welcome you and help you create memories of your own.
